Committee meeting - Monday, 25th March, 1996 Present: [JEB] (James Bromberger), Duncan Sargeant, [NTU] (Nick Bannon), Barnes (Barnaby Brown), Kym Yeap, Mikolaj Habryn, [DGC] (David Chinnery), [SGD] (Terry van Heygen), Ian McKellar, [SAF] (Simon Fryer), [MTL] (Mark Tearle). Meeting opened: 1:09pm President's ([JEB]) report: Blah. Not much turn-up at Craig's or Terry's on Saturday night. Video night this Friday at Yakk's (Ian McKellar). Treasurer's ([DGC]) report: $2564.41 Spent quite a bit on miscellaneous stuff recently. Mackerel upgrade will put another dent in that. Machines: Marlin: Brought up to 32MB with [AJW]'s (Andrew Williams) SIMMs, but still very slow. nn is one culprit, but newer versions may not need the intensive updating procedure ; they can just read news via NNTP from news.uwa.edu.au. Moray: Happy. CGI scripts were broken for a while (bad permissions on some directories), but they're OK now. IP number has been changed to the new subnet, which broke SOCKS for a while, but this has been fixed. Manta: IP number in new subnet. Starfish: Still waiting on the CD. Mackerel: Fine. Availability of SPARC/32MB boards has been confirmed - waiting on more information about postage. Budget: Submitted ahead of schedule. Totalled over $31000 - this may seem ambitious, but it includes the buying of a Pentium in first semester, and an Alpha in second semester, not to mention our (huge) turnover in pizza and drinks. Keys: Getting two extra copies cut for Cameron Hall. This will mean that every UCC door key-holder has access to the hall itself, as well. Security: Limiters have been installed, and the machine room windows have been fixed into place. The heads of the screws used to do this have been drilled out - this is a problem. Yes, it improves security, but stopping the casual person on the inside from getting _out_ wasn't the most important thing anyway... It means that we can't open the windows easily if the air conditioner breaks down, and the place in which it's been fixed reduces the air- conditioner's outside airflow, making it less efficient. [NTU] and [MTL] (Mark Tearle) attempted to drill out the screws, with a new drill bit, but it was quite ineffective. Dunc has a tungsten carbide bit which may work better, or we could buy one of our own. Light: The mercury vapour light in the loft has been repaired. Discussion Meeting: We'll schedule one for Friday week - the 26th of April, at 6:00pm. T-shirts: Will try to sell remaining ones. UCC-Announce: Committee decides that we should have more moderators. All of wheel would be good. Games night: We should have one sometime. First Friday of May could be good - the 3rd. Should book GCL. Coke machine: The new empty detection doesn't work in at least three slots. The opto-couplers are physically warm to the touch. This seems to be a Bad Thing (tm). Kym: "Yes". Vending machine: Getting steadily happier. Some progress was made on the weekend. Minutes: [DGC] "encourages" [NTU] to get them transcribed. Wheel: Take [COM] (Peter Cooper) out? He hasn't had the time to do much for a while, now, and this is unlikely to improve soon... Alpha: Keep thinking about one. Yakk's (Ian McKellar) Video Night: Need to buy some food and drink. Terry will bring some videos, and we can hire some more. Meeting closed: 1:43pm
